Thanksgiving vs Christmas
Hello, and welcome to Responsible, by ClearOPS, a newsletter about ResponsibleAI and other responsible business practices.
Thanksgiving is the best! However, I am always stressed out when it is this late in November. It leaves very little time before Christmas. Does anyone have any good ideas? All I came up with is socks, which makes me think that I am just subliminally channeling Charlie Brown.
Sharing is caring. Please share this newsletter with other responsible people.
What I have for you this week:
Granny is fighting back and it’s awesome
The practical side to AI governance
Caroline’s weekly musings - trust and safety
Chef Maggie Recommends
AI Tool of the Week
AI Bites
DALL-E generated
Okay, so this is the most fantastic use of Generative AI I have seen to date!
O2, which is a telecommunications company providing mobile and broadband services, created “Daisy,” a granny AI-bot. Daisy’s job is to keep fraudsters on the phone for as long as possible and away from victims and O2 customers.
Have you ever received a phone call from scammer? Or maybe a text message?
I have and sometimes they are amazingly good. Which is what Daisy is meant to be, amazingly good. So good at beating the scammer at their own game by pretending to be this little old chatty lady.
Created using a range of cutting-edge AI technology and trained with the help of one of YouTube’s best known scambaiters, Jim Browning, Daisy is a lifelike AI Granny completely indistinguishable from a real person.
I love this for so many reasons. First, our elderly are under attack and thousands have been victims to scams resulting in hundreds of millions of dollars lost. And this is not because the older generation doesn’t understand computers. Nope. Anyway, I love that Daisy plays on the bias that the elderly don’t understand technology in order to protect them from the scammers.
Second, O2 listened to its customers and heard the problem. Their customers hate scammers and want to get back at them, but simply don’t want to take the time. So, O2 came up with this inventive solution that gets back without taking up anyone’s time. Talk about product market fit!
Third, it is security without the invasion of any privacy!
Right now, Daisy is only available in the UK. I cannot wait until she comes to the US!
AI Trust and Safety is a mess.
So far this year, I have obtained two AI governance certifications. In addition, I have helped numerous companies with their AI governance implementations.
There is one thing that is clear.
AI governance is slowing down procurement processes even further. Yikes. We are already faced with extremely long and tedious procurement.
So let me pose it this way, AI governance programs should not slow things down, but actually speed them up. But I do think there is friction. To build a committee and determine principles and a write a manifesto for the team takes weeks if not months. Meanwhile, your company is probably far along in buying AI-enabled technologies.
But your AI safety team has barely met, let alone come up with the part of the process involving AI tool vendor management.
That is why I decided to host an impromptu webinar tomorrow which will be followed by a course in January. My goal is for people who sign up to leave the course with the AI governance program built. Check. Done.
I hope you join me tomorrow. It’s at 11am EST and it will only be for 30 minutes.
